Cycling Jacket Design

I've always been inspired by the way I've seen bike messengers wear their company cycling jackets over the years. Always an exclusive team based design that's worn under or over their outfit. I rarely saw couriers wearing their team jackets with a full cycling kit. Everyone was always dressed down but in a very functional way. Dickies pants, Hoodies, Sidi’s, Sambas or Vans, Messenger bag, U-lock & an exclusive cycling jacket to complete the outfit.

The year 2014 marks when I started Stay Alive and 2020 is when I designed & launched my first Jacket. My goal was to design an annual piece to celebrate the friendships I’ve made in the cycling community. Each and every logo is sourced from a local independent artist that Ive watched grow from nothing to something with my own eyes. I have no room for corporations and no need for sponsors in this project. Every jacket made came from money out of my own pocket.

Mismatch colors is something I’ve always loved seeing from brands like Polo Sport, Enyce or Miskeen in the early 2000’s but brands no longer do that kind of thing. Most brands today stick to solid color designs. All black everything is the uniform for majority of people in New York and that inspired me to think a little different with the way I designed these Jackets. I want the owner to feel like they’re wearing something special. Not just another piece of copy & paste item in their closet but a piece that will evolve with them as they grow older. Aside from the fashion element, Functionality is also extremely important to me. I want the owner to still own these jackets 10 years from now with a story to tell.
